During K-Kids Week we elected to celebrate our K-Kids at Mill Village Elementary and Waterford Elementary. Some special gifts were given to each of the members based on the day’s theme.
Monday – Show Your K-Kids Pride
Students participated in virtual learning, and each received an email to the K-Kids to let them know how much we value their membership.
Tuesday – Kudos to the Helpers
Every K-Kids member received a Kiwanis lanyard, drawstring bag, tablet and pen to thank them for being leaders in their school. A special tag was placed on the lanyards to encourage other students to ask the members about K-Kids.
Wednesday – Share with Kids
Thank you balloons were delivered to the K-Kids at both schools to thank them for their service helping others.
Thursday – Random Acts of Kindness
In honor of our K-Kids, we made a monetary donation to The Jared Boxes Project that the students were working on. The mission of the organization is to entertain and put a smile on the face of children in the hospital. K-Kids members packed boxes with toys and activities for children who are at Shriners Children’s in Erie.
Friday – Connect the Kiwanis Family
We took the K-Kids and their advisors to lunch at Jake’s on the Park. K-Kids students were encouraged to wear their K-Kids shirts. A group photo of the students was be taken (see below).
K-KIDS SUPPORT
The Kiwanis FLB supported K-Kids Club at Waterford Elementary school (advised by Kiwanis FLB member, teacher Malinda Vitiello) helped to coordinate the school’s annual fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The initially set goal was $2,021. The school-wide incentive for reaching this goal was for Mrs. BP to be duct taped to the wall.
The students quickly reached the goal barely halfway into the three week fundraiser! So top contributors, as well as the six K-kids here at Waterford, helped to duct tape our wonderful principal, Mrs. BP, to the wall (see photo below). The school watched on Google Meet since we could not all gather in the gym as we would have typically done. At the conclusion of the fundraiser, the students had raised over $4000, more than double our initial goal!
